Marketplace Rules

These rules describe Mosaic's current marketplace mechanics and form part of the Terms of Service.

1. Canvas and Tiles

Mosaic contains a five-million-Tile Canvas. Individual unowned Tiles may be purchased without a mandatory bundle minimum, subject to payment and marketplace requirements.

2. Unowned Tile pricing

Unowned Tiles begin at a $1 minimum acquisition price per Tile. A buyer may voluntarily establish a higher opening acquisition value in whole-dollar-per-Tile increments where the interface permits.

3. Owned Tile offers

For an owned Tile, the minimum eligible acquisition offer is the Tile's last completed acquisition value plus $1 per Tile. Buyers may offer more in whole-dollar-per-Tile increments. Owners do not publish arbitrary asking prices through Mosaic's current model.

4. Final purchases; no Mosaic buybacks

Completed Tile purchases are final except where a refund, reversal, or adjustment is authorized by the Terms or required by law. Mosaic does not buy back, redeem, repurchase, or cash out owned Tiles. Owners may transfer Tiles only to another eligible buyer through Mosaic's authorized resale process. Resale is never guaranteed.

5. Resale allocation

Completed resales currently allocate 80% of the Tile resale amount to the seller's Mosaic balance and 20% to Mosaic. Any separately accounted transaction tax, whether added to or included within the customer-facing amount, is not part of the Tile value and is excluded from the 80/20 resale allocation. Refunds, reversals, chargebacks, and payment adjustments may affect final accounting.

6. Buy What I Can

Buy What I Can authorizes Mosaic to proceed with portions of a selection that remain valid and payable even if other portions become unavailable, declined, protected by another checkout, or won by another buyer. Losing priority on some Tiles does not automatically forfeit unrelated uncontested Tiles.

7. All or Nothing

All or Nothing proceeds only if the required selection can be completed as a whole under the applicable purchase and seller-response rules. If a required Tile or component becomes unavailable, the coordinated purchase may fail rather than complete partially.

8. Seven-minute checkout holds

Mosaic currently uses a seven-minute temporary checkout hold for qualifying unowned-Tile checkout attempts. A hold gives temporary checkout priority only; it is not ownership and does not guarantee settlement. The expiration is based on the original hold creation and is not extended merely because the record changes or checkout is reopened.

9. Equal bids

When two unpaid valid holds compete for the same unowned Tiles at the same per-Tile bid, the earlier valid hold has priority over the overlap for the remainder of its hold period. A later equal bidder using Buy What I Can may still proceed with uncontested Tiles.

10. Higher bids

Before protected payment authorization, a higher qualifying per-Tile bid may displace a lower unpaid hold on overlapping unowned Tiles. With Buy What I Can, only contested pieces need be displaced; the lower bidder may retain surviving uncontested pieces until the original hold expires.

11. Authorized-payment protection

Once Mosaic recognizes the required protected payment authorization, a later buyer cannot take those protected Tiles merely by submitting a higher unpaid bid. Mosaic must be allowed to finish or safely unwind the authorized transaction.

12. Partial overlaps

Mosaic resolves priority on actual overlapping Tile pieces, not simply by declaring an entire rectangular selection the winner. Different buyers may retain different uncontested portions of partially overlapping selections.

13. Repricing after competition

If a Buy What I Can hold is partially reduced, Mosaic recalculates the surviving Tile count and payable amount. An older Stripe Checkout session may become stale and may be expired; the buyer may need a fresh checkout.

14. Hold expiration and cancellation

If an unpaid hold expires or is released before protected authorization, the Tiles may become available to another eligible buyer. Reserved Mosaic balance associated with the expired or displaced portion is released or adjusted as appropriate.

15. Seller responses

Owners may accept or explicitly decline valid resale offers. An explicit decline ends that offer and is not overridden by the inactivity process.

16. Ignored offers and administrative review

An unanswered offer may follow Mosaic's reminder, response-window, inactivity, and administrative-review process. Administrative review does not guarantee a forced or approved transfer.

17. Vacation Mode

Vacation Mode may automatically decline new offers while active and is subject to Mosaic's current duration and usage limits.

18. Wallet reinvestment

Eligible Mosaic balance may be applied to purchases in supported increments. Mosaic may reserve the wallet portion while awaiting settlement and may reduce or release the reservation if a purchase shrinks, expires, fails, or is outbid.

19. Withdrawals

Eligible seller proceeds may be withdrawable through Mosaic's supported payout provider, subject to verification, account standing, disputes, fraud review, chargebacks, law, provider rules, and available balance.

20. Settlement is authoritative

A purchase does not complete merely because a buyer viewed Stripe Checkout, saw a success page, or received a payment-provider message. Mosaic revalidates amount, ownership, checkout protection, wallet contribution, and other required conditions before final settlement.

21. Stale or conflicting state

Mosaic may reject, reprice, expire, refund, or unwind a transaction if ownership, payment, offers, checkout holds, or other required state changed before safe settlement.

22. No manipulation

Users may not manipulate acquisition history or checkout priority through collusion, fake transactions, multiple coordinated accounts, sham bids, self-dealing, payment fraud, bots, or other artificial activity.

23. Prices are not valuations

Acquisition history, minimum eligible offers, and bids do not represent Mosaic's opinion of market value and do not guarantee future resale, liquidity, appreciation, profit, impressions, clicks, advertising performance, or demand.

24. Content and ownership are separate

Artwork, titles, descriptions, and destination links are moderated separately from Tile ownership. Content may be rejected, removed, disabled, or restricted without automatically confiscating Tiles or creating a refund right.

25. Rule changes

Mosaic may change marketplace mechanics prospectively as the Service evolves, subject to law and the Terms. Completed settlements remain recorded under the rules applicable to that transaction unless correction is required for fraud, error, law, or another basis permitted by the Terms.
